Welcome to the Year Y6DS class page.
We hope you all had a lovely summer and have settled back into the school day routine well.
We would like to introduce ourselves as the year 6DS class teachers. I am Miss Downing and I have been teaching at Corpus Christi for 6 years now. I have had the privilege of teaching this cohort in Year 1 and Year 3 and I cannot wait to complete their primary journey with them in Year 6. Working alongside me this year is Mrs Scullion who will be teaching on a Friday as well as supporting the children with a smooth transition into secondary school. Miss Halton will be supporting the class throughout the week too.
As you are aware, Year Six is the final step on your child’s journey in Key Stage Two. Therefore, expectations are heightened. Your child will be expected to take responsibility for all of their possessions and expectations of behaviour and work ethic are of upmost importance. Your child needs to come to school wearing the correct uniform, following the school policy, including a tie and appropriate black school shoes. In addition to this, your child should have a PE kit bag in school with both an indoor and outdoor kit available which follows the school policy. During Autumn 1 the days your child will have PE will be a Tuesday and a Wednesday. They will need their outdoor kit on a Tuesday and an indoor kit on a Wednesday.
Your child will receive a home/school folder which will contain an appropriate reading book with a reading record, we expect you to listen to your child read every night and sign the reading record to show evidence of this. Also on a Friday, your child will be sent home with Spellings and a Maths and Grammar homework book. Spellings sheets do not need to come back into school and they will be tested on their spellings the following Thursday. Maths and Grammar books will be expected back in on the following Wednesday but we do appreciate it if possible if these could be handed in on the Monday or Tuesday to enable us as teachers a longer period to mark and assess their understanding.
Please look on the timetable to see what lessons we will be doing each day.
If parents or grandparents have any skills that you could offer in any of our subject areas, please let us know. Our first topic is the WW2 and how Coventry was affected. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support with homework and learning opportunities.
I am delighted to be teaching your child this year and if you have any queries, do not hesitate to ask.
Miss Downing, Mrs Scullion and Miss Halton.
