Welcome to the Year 1H’s website page!
This year, our amazing team consists of Mrs Holmes, the class teacher, Mrs Moreton, who will be our teaching assistant on Mondays and Fridays, and Miss Aleks who is our teaching assistant on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
This year, we will be covering some absolutely fantastic topics, including: me and my world in the autumn term; Marvellous monarchs in the spring term and all about Coventry in the summer term. Within these topics, we will be participating in lots of exciting activities and in the spring term we will be visiting Warwick Castle to get a taste of what it would have been like for William the Conqueror when he invaded Britain!
In year 1, we expect children to read at home at least five times a week, this will be checked on a daily basis, so please make sure you sign your child’s reading record whenever they read at home. Reading folders are expected to be in school every day.
Homework will be sent out every Friday and is expected in the next Wednesday- support will be given if a child is struggling with their homework.
All children in year 1 will be participating in Read, Write, Inc lessons to improve their phonics knowledge. Spellings will be given out within your child’s Read, Write Inc group every Monday and will be tested the following week- Please ensure their spelling folders come into school with them every Monday.
Year 1 is a particularly important year for your child: in June, the children will be sitting a phonics screening check, which means that it is important to practise their phonics at home regularly. Children will be given words to practise at home in preparation for this check throughout the year.
Year 1 children are required to have an indoor and outdoor PE kit which should be left at school. PE lessons will take place on a Monday and Tuesday.
We are very much looking forward to this year and all the exciting events we have planned!
Mrs Holmes, Mrs Moreton, and Miss Aleks.
