Welcome to Year Four!
We are excited to start your child’s Year Four journey with them. The class teacher will be Miss Corley supported by Mrs Metcalfe.
Throughout the year, we will be covering some fantastic topics, including, It’s All Greek to Me, Falling Forests and Rolling Rivers. Within these topics we will be participating in lots of exciting activities such as history, geography and arts and design. In the summer term, we will hopefully be visiting YHA National Forest for a residential visit for our Rolling Rivers topic.
The expectation in Year One is that your child reads to an adult on a daily basis. Please sign the diary and return it to school every day. Reading books will be changed once a week. You can read other books as well as the ones we send home, it is important your child reads a variety of texts.
Year Four is an important year for times tables. At the end of this year, we will be taking our times tables fluency tests and throughout the year children will be tested weekly with the tackling tables tests they completed last year. It is important that your child practises their tables at home as often as possible. They need to be fluent in 0x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 11x and 12x tables.
Our PE days this half term will be Monday and Thursday. On Thursday’s, children will be swimming. It is important they bring a towel and appropriate swim wear. For girls, this is a one-piece swimming costume and for boys, swimming trunks. Children may also bring goggles and a swimming cap if they like. On Monday, children will come into school wearing their PE kit on PE days. Please make sure child wears appropriate clothing in the colder months by wearing their PE tracksuit rather than shorts.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead and working with your children. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We hope the children have a great year with us and thrive within our school setting.
Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school. Please do not let your child bring in any personalised pencil cases, back packs, and any other personal items with them.
