Welcome to Year One!
We have had a jam-packed autumn term. The children were able to transition from Early years into Key stage one through continuous provision. We then moved on in autumn 2 to more formal learning. The children coped with this amazingly and are now independent learners.
More exciting news this term, we have a new member to add to our class. Mrs Butler will be joining us as our full time TA from the spring term and we look forward to her enthusiasm, knowledge and care shining through all aspects of the curriculum.
This term our topic will be ‘Marvellous Monarchs’. We will be learning lots about history include acting out the battle of Hastings and going to visit a real castle. In science we will be learning about materials and the different properties of them. We have also got lots of new and exciting texts to use in English and shared reading. .
The expectation in Year One is that your child reads or is read to on a daily basis. Please sign the diary as this will be checked daily. Reading books will be changed once a week. You can read other books as well as the ones we send home, it is important your child reads or hears a variety of texts.
All children in Year One will be participating in Read, Write, Inc lessons to support their phonics knowledge. Year One is a particularly important year for your child as in June the children will complete a phonics screening check. This means that it is important to practise their phonics at home regularly, children will be given sounds and words to practise at home throughout the year, in preparation for this check. Please ask for any further information.
Our PE days this half term will be Monday and Friday. This year children will come into school wearing their PE kit on PE days. Please make sure child wears appropriate clothing in the colder months by wearing their PE tracksuit rather than shorts.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead and working with your children. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We hope the children have a great year with us and thrive within our school setting.
