Welcome to Year One!
We are excited to start your child’s Year One journey with them. The class teacher this year will be Mrs Holmes supported by Miss Semple
This year, we will be supporting your child with the transition from Early Years into Key Stage One. Children will still participate in learning through play through continuous provision up until the October half term, this will allow for a smooth transition. Due to the closure of the school last academic year we will continue to support your child in their Early Learning Goals within Maths, English and their Personal, Social and Emotional development.
Throughout the year, we will be covering some fantastic topics, including, Me and My World, Marvellous Monarchs and Coventry to coast. Within these topics we will be participating in lots of exciting activities such as history, geography and arts and design. In the spring term we will hopefully be visiting Warwick Castle for our Marvellous Monarchs topic.
The expectation in Year One is that your child reads or is read to on a daily basis. Please sign the diary and return it to school every Monday. Reading books will be changed once a week. You can read other books as well as the ones we send home, it is important your child reads or hears a variety of texts.
All children in Year One will be participating in Read, Write, Inc lessons to support their phonics knowledge. Year One is a particularly important year for your child as in June the children will complete a phonics screening check. This means that it is important to practise their phonics at home regularly, children will be given sounds and words to practise at home throughout the year, in preparation for this check. Please ask for any further information.
Our PE days this half term will be Wednesday and Thursday. This year children will come into school wearing their PE kit on PE days. Please make sure child wears appropriate clothing in the colder months by wearing their PE tracksuit rather than shorts.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead and working with your children. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We hope the children have a great year with us and thrive within our school setting.
