Welcome to 1K
The team this year is Miss Kelly – class teacher, and Miss Evans – teaching assistant. We are both really excited to teach your children this year.
This year, we will be covering some fantastic topics, including, Me and my world, Marvellous Monarchs and Coventry. Within these topics we will be participating in lots of exciting activities such as history, geography and arts and design. In the spring term, we will be visiting Warwick Castle for our Marvellous Monarchs topic.
In year 1, we expect children to read at home at least five times a week, this will be checked on a daily basis, so please make sure you sign your child’s reading record whenever they read at home. Reading folders are expected to be in school every day.
Homework will be sent out every Friday and is expected in the following Wednesday- support will be given if a child is struggling with their homework.
All children in year 1 will be participating in Read, Write, Inc lessons to support their phonics knowledge. Year 1 is a particularly important year for your child as in June the children will be sitting a phonics screening check. This means that it is important to practise their phonics at home regularly, children will be given words to practise at home, in preparation for this check, throughout the year. Please ask for any further information.
Year 1 children are required to have an indoor and outdoor PE kit which should be left at school. PE lessons will take place on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead and working with your children. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. We hope the children have a great year with us and thrive within our school setting.
Thank you for all your support!
