Mrs Williams, Mr Jones, Miss McCann, Miss Sexton and Miss Aleks welcome you all to the Year 2 News page!

English lessons are based on a genre and work towards a main writing outcome. Included in these lessons are Comprehension/Guided Reading lessons and Extended Writing lessons. This term we will cover: Unit 3 – Playscripts and Persuasive Writing, Unit 4 – Traditional Tales and Instructions. Some children will continue their Read, Write Inc lessons.

 

In Maths, we are learning to measure length, mass and temperature. We will also be learning about money and how to find the correct change from an amount. In addition to this, we will be looking at word problems and picture graphs.

 

In RE, we will be focussing on Miracles and Parables, Lent and Holy Week.

 

We will also be studying

 

PE – Handball and Indoor Athletics. Kits are needed in school every day but we shall have indoor PE on a Monday and outdoor PE every Friday.

Computing – The children will be programming using Scratch.

In Science we will be finding out:

How to group a variety of common animals and compare their structures.

How to describe the changes that happen as animals grow and investigating the needs of animals for survival.

How to describe the human life-cycle and recounting changes that have occurred in our own lives.

In Geography we will be finding out:

How to identify daily weather patterns in the UK and describe seasonal weather patterns.

How to identify the key features of a location and whether location can be linked to dangerous/adverse weather.

How to identify hot and cold areas of the world and forecast the weather.

In Art we will be finding out:

How to choose and compose sound to create an effect and create a sequence of long and short sounds.

How to make a rain gauge and a weather vain.

How to create a weather chart and create a baking soda volcano.

Welcome to Year 2

Mrs Williams, Mr Jones, Miss McCann, Miss Sexton and Miss Aleks welcome you all to the Year 2 News page!

English lessons are based on a genre and work towards a main writing outcome. Included in these lessons are Comprehension/Guided Reading lessons and Extended Writing lessons. This term we will cover: Unit 1 – Stories with a familiar setting – Diaries, letters. Unit 2 – Poetry Unit 3 – Non - Chronological Reports. Some children will continue their Read, Write Inc lessons and this will be explained to you at parents evening.

In Numeracy, we are looking at counting up to 100 objects by grouping them and counting in tens, fives or twos; explaining what each digit in a two-digit number represents. Read and writing two-digit and three-digit numbers in figures and words. Solving problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication or division in contexts of numbers, measures or pounds and pence. Deriving and recalling multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times-tables and the related division facts;

In Re, we will be focussing on the Old Testament, Our Church, Advent and Christmas.

 

We will also be studying

 

PE - Dance, Gymnastics and Net and Ball games. Kits are needed in school every day but we shall have indoor PE on a Wednesday and outdoor PE every Thursday.

Computing - Combining text with graphics, change font size, style and colour,

 

In Science we will be finding out:

How materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

How to use our senses to explore and recognise similarities and differences between materials.

How to sort objects into groups based on simple properties.

How to recognise and name common types of materials which are found naturally.

 

In History we will be finding out:

How to recognise why people did things, why events happen and what happened as a result.

How to place events in a timeline in chronological order using words related to the past.

How people’s lives were different years ago.

How to recognise why people did things, why events happened and what happened as a result.

How to recognise significant men and women throughout history.

How different events within Britain and the world have happened.

 

In Art we will be finding out:

How to record from first hand observations and imagination.

How to ask and answer questions about our work and develop our ideas,

How to use different materials and techniques.

How to review our work and what we might change or develop.

How to use line, tone, shape, colour and pattern.

 

We are very excited for the year ahead and looking forward to seeing the children achieve their full potential!
